I love Electrelane. No Shouts No Calls is seriously perfect for your inner Riot Grrrl. This song is one of their mellower tracks. It’s like a long journey of quiet desperation for someone you love. Perfect for rainy nights and missing somebody.

County Line - Cass McCombsDedicated to my hometown: Allentown,...

County Line - Cass McCombs

Dedicated to my hometown: Allentown, Pa.

Modern Man // The Arcade FireWhat a great song to listen to...

Modern Man // The Arcade Fire

What a great song to listen to while you drive to your soul-crushing job. This song is off of the album The Suburbs, released in 2010. According to Win Butler, the album “is neither a love letter to, nor an indictment of, the suburbs – it’s a letter from the suburbs.”

Maybe when you’re older you will understand
Why you don’t feel right
Why you can’t sleep at night now

This song is...

Rilkean Heart // Cocteau Twins (acoustic version)

This song is off of the band’s 1995 EP Twinlights. The EP consists of four songs. Elizabeth Fraser describes the EP as being about a man she fell in love with during their 1994 tour. This song in particular is my favorite. It is very meditative and reflective, as well as hopeful — which fits the mood of these last few weeks of spring.

…You’re lost and don’t know what to do
But it’s not all you
That’s your reality today
And now it’s all okay

I recently discovered this song...

Baby // Donnie and Joe Emerson

I recently discovered this song via Aquarium Drunkard. It was featured on the mix Springtime Promises. This song is probably one of the most beautiful songs I have ever heard, despite the fact that the singer is inaudible and barely hanging in there vocally on this dreamy lo-fi recording. It’s the kind of song that leaves you breathless while simultaneously wondering, Did they record this in their parent’s basement? And the answer is, yes—kinda. It was recorded in a home-built studio in their family home in Washington state. That’s pretty much all I could get out of Google, and that’s really all I need. The mystery somehow adds to the magic of this song. Play this for someone you love, but they better be The One because you do not want this track ruined for you.
